Is There a ‘Better’ Surface Lure…?

‘Than the Xorus Patchinko 125…’ I recall being somewhat sceptical upon its introduction into the range back in 2018. Could it fill the void between the 100 and 140? Would it ‘do anything’ over and above what I considered to be the benchmark at the time – the Xorus Frosty?

A wonderful near 5lb bass from early-April of this year – a period when tempting them off the top isn’t always a given due to the still cool sea temperatures.

Weighing 18g, and of course measuring 125mm, it only took me a matter of a few ‘casts and retrieves’ to suss that this was very, very, special lure. In comparison to the competition, it remains one of, if not the ‘best’ casting lure surface sliding lures out there. Furthermore, in terms of how and where you can effectively use it, its levels of versatility are currently unmatched.

A late-April capture from a section if fast running water well inland incidentally…

I could sit here all day, typing down and waxing lyrical about the virtues of the Patchinko 125. And you only need to visit my South Devon Bass Guide Website and read the many, many Blog Posts to realise just how many marvellous ‘client catches’ have fallen for its charms.

A 60cm+ brute for me from late-May that ‘hammered’ the ‘Patch 125’ right on the edge of the wrack after being worked and retrieved out of some deep water.

Therefore, below is list of what I consider to the Patchinko 125’s attributes, followed by an Audio Clip in which I elaborate further on all of them. So, in no particular order then, it can:

  • Be effectively utilised in all depths of water.
  • Be cast very long distances.
  • Be worked in a subtle manner.
  • Be made to appear far more conspicuous if necessary.
  • Be used in almost all sea conditions.
  • Be employed in all environments in which bass can be found.
